What Does an 80 kg Drawer Load Rating Mean at Full Extension?

It describes a specified slide configuration. It does not automatically describe every drawer, every cabinet or every mobile unit in a product range.

Short answer

An 80 kg per-drawer rating applies when the specified reinforced heavy-duty slides are installed and the drawer is fully extended, with the load evenly distributed. It is not a blanket rating for all drawers, all cabinet models or the total cabinet load.

Three limits are often confused

01

Slide rating

The load the named slide model is rated to carry under its stated test condition.

02

Drawer construction

The drawer box, base, runner fixing and front must transfer the load without excessive deflection.

03

Cabinet system

The frame, fixing, anti-tip condition and casters determine whether the whole unit stays stable.

What to verify in a supplier quotation

QuestionAcceptable evidenceWhy it matters
Which slide model is included?Manufacturer name and model numberAllows the rating to be checked against the component datasheet.
What is the rated load?Manufacturer-rated kg with stated test conditionA number without a condition cannot be compared fairly.
Full or partial extension?Drawer-travel description and slide typeLoad at full extension is not the same as a closed or partially open drawer.
How is the load distributed?Uniform load assumption or point-load limitA concentrated tool or fixture can create a different condition from an even load.
What limits the cabinet total?Frame, fixing and stability detailsDrawer ratings cannot simply be multiplied to create a cabinet capacity.
What changes on casters?Caster quantity and item-specific load allowanceFloor, caster arrangement and movement affect the mobile unit as a system.

Do not compare these ratings as if they are equal

  • Static load vs repeated use: a load held once is not the same as a drawer opened and closed daily.
  • Uniform load vs point load: a heavy object at the drawer front is different from weight spread over the drawer base.
  • Full extension vs partial extension: the leverage on the slide and cabinet changes with travel.
  • Drawer rating vs cabinet rating: a strong slide does not by itself make the complete cabinet stable.
  • Fixed cabinet vs mobile cabinet: casters, floor condition and movement add other variables.
For a real order, put the requirement on the drawing. State the item number, slide model, required load, drawer size, expected load distribution and whether the unit is fixed or mobile. The approved drawing becomes the reference for inspection.

Five questions to ask before price comparison

  1. Is the quoted drawer load the slide manufacturer's rating or a whole-cabinet test result?
  2. Does the rating apply with the drawer fully extended?
  3. Is the load assumed to be evenly distributed across the drawer base?
  4. What drawer-box gauge and reinforcement are required at that load?
  5. What cabinet fixing, interlock or caster arrangement is required in service?

How to specify a project

Start with what goes into the drawer, not with the largest rating on a web page. Give the actual tool weight, drawer dimensions, frequency of use and movement conditions. The drawer and slide can then be selected against the approved drawing.

  • Drawer interior width × depth × height.
  • Expected maximum and normal working load.
  • Whether the load is uniform or concentrated.
  • Required extension: partial or full.
  • Cabinet mounting and whether more than one drawer may open at once.
  • Mobile or fixed installation, floor condition and caster arrangement.

Buyer questions

Does an 80 kg rating mean every drawer can hold 80 kg?

No. It applies only to the drawer and slide configuration recorded on the approved drawing, with the drawer fully extended. Other models may use a different slide and construction.

Does the rating apply when the drawer is fully open?

Yes. The 80 kg per-drawer reference applies with the drawer fully extended, using the specified reinforced heavy-duty full-extension slides and with the load evenly distributed.

How do I calculate total cabinet load?

Do not multiply the drawer rating by drawer count. Ask for an item-specific assessment that includes frame strength, fixing, load distribution and any casters.

Is a drawer interlock included?

Treat the interlock as a separately specified option. When required, confirm its design, cost and MOQ on the approved drawing and quotation.

Confirm the load requirement

Send the drawer size, tool weight, required extension and mounting condition. We will match the configuration to the approved drawing rather than a generic headline number.
